I have to say that as a person who has tendencies to agree mostly with Democrats and Liberals when it comes to major ideals, viewpoints and opinions concerning the future of America, it is very exciting to read stuff like this from Republican Senator Olympia Snowe, who is a member of the White House finance committee:
“I’ve always been a Republican for the traditional principles that have been associated with the Republican party since I became a Republican, when I registered to vote. And that is limited government, individual opportunities, fiscal responsibility, and a strong national defense. So I think those principles have always been a part of the Republican party heritage. And I believe that I reflect those views and I haven’t changed as a Republican. I think more that my party has changed.”
More and more as I cruise the political internet, the websites and blogs of those like me who are interested in what goes on in our country, and the politics of both Democrats and Republicans, I find Republicans who are sick and tired of the way their party is acting. Republicans are embarrassed over the likes of Glenn Beck and the right-wing, conservative Christian fanatics who are portraying themselves as nut cases. It is one thing to believe that our country is not headed where you want it to go, it is another to be racist toward our president, to attack others with violence, such as the hanging of the census worker in Ohio week before last. It’s called murder. Here is a very disgusting and alarming article about Rusty DePass, South Carolina long-time GOP activist and former candidate for senator.
No wonder Republicans are wondering about the sanity of their party members.
It makes me ill, and it makes me want to personally apologize to President Obama and the First Lady. However, when the human side of politicians and voters alike are forced to replace party allegiance with human decency, that can only be a good thing. Sane Americans are seeing the deep-seated hatred and bigotry that is unfortunately weaved into the fabric of our history. This legacy must be changed. Hatred of our own people must be eradicated if we are to ever have peace among us and be the country we aspire to be.
Come on America! We are a team.
“Come on America! We are a team”
Not really. Why should I see myself as being on the same “team” as people I despise and who want to force me to do a great many things I disagree with? I regard the Republicans as only marginally less vile than the Democrats, which is why I vote for neither and therefore see the actually choice on offer as tantamount to “now you get to be empowered by choosing who gets to rape you”.
My team is “none of the above” and the only flag flying on my house on the 4th of July has no stars or stripes on it but instead has a rattlesnake and the words “Dont Tred On Me” written on it.
Hi Tom.
makes sense to me! I guess I am just an idealists and wish we could come together on issues. but you are right, it is your democratic right not to be part of the team. That’s what America is all about anyway.
Too bad we are going to lose the game if we don’t get our ‘team’ together.
